The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Pro has been revealed, and it’s set to be the most potent version of Stuttgart’s legendary coupe yet. After the four cylinder C63 AMG debacle, is it back to business as usual then with AMG’s V8 engines?
The Ultimate Track Weapon
The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Pro is touted as the most track-focused iteration of the GT coupe to date. While we are not going to rule out an R or Black Series in the future, for now, the GT 63 Pro sits proudly at the top.
Under the hood, AMG has taken its 4.0 litre V8 twin-turbocharged petrol engine and tuned it to pump out an impressive 450 kW and 850 Nm – that’s 19 kW and 50 Nm more than the standard GT 63. Mated to a 9-speed gearbox and all-wheel drive, the GT 63 Pro rockets from 0-100 kph in a mere 3.1 seconds and reaches a top speed of 317 kph. But this car isn’t just about straight-line speed.
Track-Ready Upgrades
For track enthusiasts, aerodynamics and cooling are naturally critical, and AMG has upgraded both for this model. The GT 63 Pro features two new radiators in the front wheel arches and specialised radiators with water pumps for the transfer case and two differentials.
The front end meanwhile sports larger intakes, additional air deflectors, and an active air panel that optimises airflow based on cooling needs and speed. This setup apparently reduces front axle lift, while the rear wing boosts downforce - and we are certainly not going to argue with them here. Also looks quite impressive if you ask us.
Superior Handling
With great power comes great responsibility, and stopping power is as equally impressive, with carbon-ceramic discs and six-piston callipers – the largest and lightest AMG offers. The 21-inch forged alloy wheels come wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tyres, with track-spec Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tyres available at no extra cost.
Luxurious Interior
Inside, expect AMG Performance bucket seats, an abundance of leather and carbon fibre, and the MBUX digital instrument cluster, ensuring the interior matches the car’s high-performance credentials.
Arrival in South Africa
When will the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Pro grace South African shores? While we can only wish for an early arrival, the standard AMG GT is expected to arrive by the end of this year. The Pro version is then going on sale internationally in early 2025. So, a mid-2025 arrival in South Africa seems to be a reasonable estimate.
