Opel is reviving the historic Frontera name for an all-new crossover SUV.
Sharper Design, Increased Space
The Opel Frontera adopts the brand's latest design language, showcasing a bold Vizor front end that incorporates slim LED headlights and the central Opel Blitz emblem. The overall look is both sporty and sophisticated. While slightly longer than the Crossland it replaces, the new Frontera maintains a compact footprint for urban manoeuvrability. Inside, expect a spacious and practical cabin with a generous cargo area exceeding 460 litres.
Electrification Possibilities
While full specifications are yet to be confirmed, Opel suggests a strong emphasis on electrified powertrains for the new Frontera. Alongside traditional combustion engines likely featuring mild-hybrid technology, a fully electric variant is also anticipated. This electric model would potentially share its powertrain components with other electric models from the Stellantis group.
Technology Focus
The Opel Frontera is set to arrive with a host of modern technology features. It will sport the brand's 'Pure Panel' cockpit showcasing dual 10-inch digital displays for instrumentation and infotainment. Wireless smartphone integration, a head-up display, and a comprehensive suite of driver assistance systems are also expected.
South African Launch
The new Opel Frontera is initially destined for European markets, expected to go on sale in the summer of 2024. Opel South Africa has confirmed its plans to introduce the model locally, with an anticipated arrival sometime in the first half of 2025.
Within the South African market, the Opel Frontera will face fierce competition from the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster, and Volkswagen T-Cross. Its stylish design, modern tech features, and the possibility of a fully electric option could position it strongly amongst its rivals.
